After our horrible experience at Maurilio's, we have been hesitant to try other Italian restaurants using Groupon or Living Social. Luckily, Roma Ristorante was not a disappointment. While the decor was a little tacky and the service slow, the food and other little things made up for it.
We ordered some Sprites which came in cute Coca Cola glasses. I have a few at home from when McDonalds was giving out free glasses with each meal. They're really durable!
We then received some bread made in house and it was super soft. Oh! And the butter that came with the bread was SOFT and SPREADABLE! I was so happy! Does anyone else besides me have a problem with restaurants that serve butter from the fridge/freezer that isn't easily spread?
After a while, our appetizer of Stuffed Mushrooms, stuffed with our Bolognese sauce, topped with mozzarella cheese and baked, served on marinara, arrived. Sadly, I checked the website and these are no longer on the menu. They were extremely hot and stuffed full of meats and cheeses. Delicious!
I was trying to decide between several dishes and ended up choosing Manicotti, stuffed with ricotta-spinach mixture, topped with besciamella sauce and mozzarella cheese, baked and served with vegetables. This dish was so rich and filling! I burned my tongue in my eagerness to try it out and could only finish a fraction of what was served. The rest ended up being lunch for the next day.
Mr. Munchimunch ordered the Fettucine alla Carbonara, creamy carbonara with bacon, Italian sausage and green peas in a rich Alfredo sauce with Fettucini pasta, which is also no longer on the menu. I only had a single bite as he finished the whole dish before I was even done with my meal! He thoroughly enjoyed his dish.
Of course, I couldn't leave without dessert. Roma does not have a dessert menu so the server provides a list of fresh desserts made daily. I was glad they had Tiramisu the day we were there! Divine. I would go back for a slice any day!
Roma Ristorante impressed us with their quality of food. While I would go back to try other dishes and their fresh desserts, the slow service is a turn off for me. Still, I would still recommend this place with or without a Groupon/Living Social deal!
