This will be one of the several posts dedicated to my yearly visit back east.
Thank you for joining me as I reflect back on my trip and food adventures.  Enjoy~

1021 US Route 1, Avenel, NJ 07001 732 855 7600

Not only was I lucky enough to yum cha with my mom and my brother once while I was back east, but we managed to have dim sum twice in one weekend, two days in a row! This time, we decided to stop by Royal Seafood since we were shopping in the area.

On the bottom left you have Spare Ribs over a bed of rolled up Rice Noodles. The spare ribs were juicer than the ones from Sunny Palace the day before and the sauce was so delicious! We dipped a lot of dim sum items in that sauce! On the bottom right you have Turnip Cake which was also better than the ones at Sunny Palace because it was nicely pan fried and wasn't as mushy.

Next up, we have Steamed Chinese Sausage Buns, one of my favorite steamed buns!, on the left and Steamed Roast Pork Buns, on the right. Both had that light and airy texture I love so much. In the middle, we have Lo Mai Gai.

Lo Mai Gai is sticky rice with little treasures wrapped inside a lotus leaf. This particular one had some ground pork, some mushroom, and a single piece of Chinese sausage. I especially like the ones with Chinese sausage and salted egg.

We ordered the Phoenix Claws with Salted Black Diced Soy Beans (chicken feet) for my mom as that is one of her favorites. There were some peppers on top so it made it bearably spicy for me. Behind, you can see that we placed two orders of Dou Fu Fa!

This Dou Fu Fa was much better than the one from Sunny Palace. This one was in the traditional wooden bucket and had a softer and silkier texture. So good!

When I saw Elderberry Gelatin on the same cart as the Dou Fu Fa, I had to order one. Unfortunately, these were not to my liking. There wasn't that faint elderberry taste and the gelatin was not solid enough. It was as though the gelatin was sitting out for too long and had started to melt. I will have to pass on this next time.

By this time, we were practically full. But we order one order of Shrimp Rice Noodles. The ones at Sunny Palace were actually better.

Lastly, my brother was lucky enough to have the general manager of the restaurant come over to ask him specifically what he wanted and so he ordered his favorite Beef Tripe. They steamed one dish just for him!

I have to say the quality for dim sum was better at Royal Seafood and the prices were more expensive even though we had ordered about the same amount of food. With Sunny Palace being closer than Royal Seafood, I would be more inclined to head there instead. But if I am ever in the area, I would choose to visit Royal Seafood.
